Chiku Chiku is based on the very old Japanese technique of Boro, a darning style stitch, making clothes last longer. It is a simple running stitch, cotton thread, often two strands, bonding two or three layers of cloth giving it puckers, shadow and depth. There is no need to be concerned about evenness of stitch or straightness of line.
It has become a way to create unique items that are original, creative, easy to make and uniquely satisfying.
This technique encourages the use of scarps of fabrics, new or old. You can recycle favourite old garments, leftover quilt scraps or anything you have in your scrap bag.
